GIFT EVENING
FUNCTION AT POKUEU. A gift evening was tendered to a popular coup e, Miss Shostrom, and Mr J. Karl, at the home ol Mr and Mrs O. A. Law, Pokuru, last Saturday evening, in honour of their approaching marriage. Cards, dancing o'ames and competitions .were, the order’of the evening, and there was a largo and representative attendance. Competitions were won by Mrs Fitzell and Miss E. Jones. After a very tasty supper, Mr W.'McYeriy, on. behalf of the assemblage, wished the oaiests of the evening every happiness and prosperity in their married lite, and assured them of the best wishes of their Pokuru friends. He then asked Miss Shostrom to .open, the large array of parcels containing,; a great variety of gifts suitable for furnishing' the future home. Ml Karl on behalf of his bride-to-be and himself, acknowledged .the gifts and the sentiments accompanying them, and the couple were accorded musical honours. At the close of the evening “ Auld Lang Syne ” was lustily sung, and the host and hostess accorded three cheers for their hospitality.
