POWER DEVELOPMENT
IN TE AWAMIUTU BOARD'S AREA. INSPECTORS AND ENGINEER'S REPORTS. The following reports by the engineer (Mr E. Bryant) and the inspector (Mr A. J. Tailby) were presented and adopted at the monthly meeting of Te Awtamutu Electric Power Board on Friday:— ENGINEER'S REPORT. (Sixty-three poles were carted, and 57 erected, of which 13 were used for maintenance and 44 on construction. The Earl estate road 11.000-volt extension line was completed and livened up on 22nd ult; 429 chains of 7/16 wire were erected and 40 chains of No. 10 were dismantled. An exceptional gale was experienced in this district on lC'i<h instant, and nearly all the trouble to lines was caused by trees or branches of trees falling on the wires; a pole was broken at Lake ißtoad. The gang has been occupied during the past week inspecting the lines and ramming poles where required. All lines north of the Puniu River are completed and a start miade on the southern area. An 11 k.v.ia. transformer was erected to supply new consumers; 200 gallons of oil were filtered, and the breathers changed on 8 transformers. Three static condensers were repaired and 4 were re-erect-ed after overhaul. A temporary switch has been installed on a 50 k.v.a. condenser. The net peak supply to date is 1101 k.v.a. Three street lamps were changed in the borough, 1 at Ohaupo, and 4 at the post office clock. Thirty community lamps were replaced on various circuits; wiring altei'ations were made on No. 1 circuit to release the wiring on a pole owned by the Post and Telegraph Department; 2 lamps were disconnected. Nineteen service lines were erected and 1 pump service was shifted; service lines were attended to where required; 7 services were disconnected and 5 re-connected. Tree-trimming has been carried out in various parts c,f the area. The vehicles travelled 5787 miles during the month. Four Voltage tests were taken, and the k.v.a. meter was re-installed at the New Zealand Dairy Company's factory after being overhauled. The usual fault work has been done, INSPECTOR'S REPORT.
During the month the following installations and extensions have been tested and inspected: Bight lighting plants, 13 cow-plant motors, 15 separator motors, 1 other power plant, G water-pump motors, 1 stove, and 9 electric water-heaters, a total of 53, and a total to date of 1756 light'.ng plants, 610 cow-plant motors (1 disconnected), 165 separator motors, 81 other power plants, 312 water pumps, 27 washing machines, 16 shearing plants, 237 stoves (1 disconnected), and 596 water-heaters (3 disconnected), a grand total of 3800. I have also tested and inspected extensions on 11 lighting plants, representing an increase of 15 lights and* 5 plugs, a, total to date of 1635 extensions; tested and inspected alterations on. 2 lighting plants, 9 cow plants, 2 other power plants, 1 stove, 3 pumping plants, and 2 waterheateis; installed 56 meters, changed 5, removed 10, disconnected 3.. reconnected 2, repaired 6, and tested 50; disconnected 3 water-heaters, 1 stove and 1 cow plant finally; reconnected 1 power plant; reinspeeted 2 lighting plants, 7 cow plants. 2 separator motors, 1 other power plant, 2 waterpumps, 1 stove, and 4 water-heaters; made up specifications for 2 lighting plants, 3 cow-p'ant motors. 2 separator motors, 1 other power plant, 1 water oump, and 2 water-heaters; inspected 4 'all-electric radio sets, attended to 10 consumers' inquiries, made up fire underwriters' returns for August, and changed over Te Awamutu Dairy Cownpany's factory to the new metering system.
