DISTRICT HAPPENING S. TOWN BOARD. (Ouv Resident Representative J. The ordinary meeting' of the Otorohanga Town Board was held on Thursday night, Mr Greenshieids occupying the chair, in the absence of Mr F. 0. R. Phillips. The newlyelected commissioner, Mr A. P. Grey, took his seat for the first time, and received the usual welcome. Com. W. H. Culley withdrew his application for a lease of the Island Reserve.—'Jhe Audit Office had advised that the Board could not, lawfully grant a lease to one of its members.

An application from the King Country High School Sports Association to hold" their annual sports carnival on the Island Reserve was granted. It was decided to graze sheep, under the supervision of a local stock agent, on the Board's fenced reserves.

The assignment of a Railway lease, held by Mr Robert Green, to the Board, was approved. The Waikato-Maniapoto Maori Land Board advised that they would accept liability for rates from tenants at will, to the extent of the net revenue received. As a result of the Health Inspector's report, several residences in the town will be closed to future tenants. A large amount of routine business was transacted, and accounts totalling £275 16s 3d were passed for payment.

Wihen he transferred the farm to his brother he was in debt about £'loo, ana! a judgment debt oi about £250, owing to the Farmers' Auctioneering- Co., was incurred in connection w-th the coaching ana fanning business. These debts have been reduced by about £7OO since he left the fann. He had been continually pressed by creditors with juagrnent summonses, and owing to aeing three judgments out against him, he was compel.ed to file. Tne Official Assignee suggested that tne bankrupt should supply a statement of h.'s receipts and expenditure cover.ng the i.asr two years. A resolution was carried to this effect and the meeting was adjourned .to Thursday, 6th October.

Tine withdrawal of Government grants for such supplies as supplementary readers, handwork tools, seeds, manures, paper for handwork, science apparatus and appliances for the infant department, etc., render it imperative for the Committee to procure the money by medium of such functions as the one under review.

At the annual meeting of the Otorohanga Cricket Association the balance sheet disclosed a cash credit of £3 8s 2d, with liabilities nil. During the year six teams took part in the competitions, and L. Scown and G. Lissington, both of .Kio Kio, scored centuries! The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr D. Ross; president, Mr S. J. Fortescue; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Hotson, H. G. Corbett, A. C. Thompson, H. J. Downard; secretary and treasurer, Mr V. Fairbrother; management committee, Messrs Reyling, Marwood, Rogers, Jonkers, T. Johnson; delegates to the South Auckland Association, Messrs Fairbrother and Jonkers. The first practice will be on the 30th inst. Five teams have already been nominated for this year's competitions.
