LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
DATES OF THE SEASONS. Sir, —At this time of the year there are freqeunt queries as to when our various seasons commence and end. I have been interested in this subject for many years. By keeping.a careful watch on temperature, sunrise and sunset, the appearance of vegetation, etc., I think I have compiled an ideal calendar for these regions of the earth's surface. I have simply split in half the months of February, May, August,. and November, and allotted these halves to what I think is their perfect grouping. This calendar is applicable to the whole of New Zealand. It is as follows: Spring begins on 16th August and ends on 15th November; summer begins' on 16th November and ends on 15th February; autumn begins on 16th February and ends on 15th May; Winter begins on 16th May and endson 15th August.—l am, etc., MERCURY.
