The New Zealand Gazette states that Lieutenant J. W. Barry, New Zealand Staff Corps, has been appointed officer -in charge of Waikato Camp, Ngaruawahia, and retains the appointment of ordnance officer, Northern Command.
Miss K. Sterritt, of Teasdale Street, has returned from a holiday spent at Russell and the Waitakeres.
Mr and Mrs Hartley Hall, of Te Rore, motored to Auckland this morning to meet Mrs Hall’s sister, Miss Marjorie Luffman, of Bournemouth, England, who is a passenger on the Monowai.
Mr Leslie Jones, of Sydney, is visiting his uncle, Mr Raymond Jones, of Kihikihi Road, and purposes making a stay in the Dominion of several weeks. The visitor was a member of the caste of the J. C. Williamson play, “The Barrett’s of Whimpole Street,” and has been touring Australia with various companies for the past eight years including short tours of New Zealand, Tasmania, the Islands and Western Canada.
Mr George E. Clark, of Cambridge, celebrated his ninety-second birthday yesterday. Mr Clark, who is well known as the founder and head of the firm of Clark and Sons, of Cambridge, Hamilton, and Waharoa, retains all his faculties and enjoys good health. He was born in Cambridgeshire, England, in 1840, and came to New Zealand in 1886, and three years later purchased a farm of 300 acres at Puekroro for 30s an acre, a property that is now one of the finest parts of the Cambridge district. Subsequently Mr Clark increased his holding to 600 acres, and he farmed successfully for 27 years, when he established his business in Cambridge. He has always taken an active interest in agricultural matters, and was organiser of the original Waikato Farmers’ Club. He was a member of the Waikato County Council for six years, of the Cambridge Road Board for several years, and is an active member of the Waikato Central Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr Clark was also a member of Cambrige Borough Council. The family gathered at the res'dence of Mrs A. W. Gane (Mr Clark’s daughter), at Cambridge on Saturday to celebrate Mr Clark’s birthday.
