Don’t believe all the stories you hear about the depression. THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OPPORTUNITY. Ours is the opportunity to pull a weight in putting things right again. “ BUT HOW ? ” you will ask. Well, “money a mickle makes a muckle,” as the Scots have it. The biggest buildings in the world are built in bucketsful. Let us follow out this analysis in our buying and selling. When we talk of Empire Trade how does it work out ? We export our butter for example, in lots of hundreds of tons, although the demand for it is in pound and half-pound pats. It is the aggregate of all these small buyers which has enabled us to reach a new record this year of 100,000 tons of butter for export. So it is with our Imports. It is the aggregate of the small purchases that counts. A yard l of cloth here, a saucepan there —all combine in the one big whole which enables our delegates to Ottawa to seek reciprocity in trading. Nearer home, the avenues of trade are still more personal. The town which serves the district —which shares in the whole social or economic life of the district. Loyalty to your own town is not a matter of sentiment. It is simply a common-sense responsibility. All of your small purchases amount in the aggregate to the trade of the town. In keeping with the volume of trade so the town grows, and so also increase the social and public amenities for your enjoyment. REMEMBER, TE AWAMUTU ASKS NO FAVOURS OF ANY OTHER TOWN. It provides the facility and the service for its people. It is a centred point at which co-ordinated endeavour throughout the whole neighbouring district may be focussed. Pull your weight. Every little contribution in the desire for District Progressiveness will tell in the aggregate, and more speedily reach the goal of District Endeavour.
