HIGH SCHOOL V. HAMILTON
TECHNICAL,
A better grade of hockey than Te Awamutu High School has been caLed upon to piay this season was given at Albert ParK on Wednesday aiternoon, when the High School played Hamilton Technical School's eleven. The contest was bright and keen throughout, and the spectators enjoyed it to the full. , . , , From the bully-off Technical attacked, but were promptly driven back and a passing bout t>y High bchool saw N. McMahon shoot a goai. A minute later C. Rickit notched a second. Technical settled down to better piay, but School were soon invading, and a third goai from a melee ngnt in front was narrowly missed. Paul and Empson were combining well on the righc wing, but they soon found opponents just as clever, and some bright play was witnessed, with High School doing most of the attacking. Play was gradually worked back, but McMahon raced up the line and transferred to Rickit, who netted, but a penalty corner was ordered for an eanier infringement. A few seconds lacer McMahon had another shot, but skied the ball over the net instead of into it. School were on the attack for most of the time, but near the end of the spell Technical were within shoot.ng distance two or three times. Right on the call of time the ball was sent smartly to the other end by Rickit, who had a shot, but the goalie was equal to the occasion, and he deflected the ball outside the net. Technical did better early in the second sped, but their attacks did not last long. High School were. shortpassing very effectively, and ga.ned ground time after time by these methods. One hot attack in which Fisher figured prominently saw Technical reach the circle, but Shaw kicked clear. Technical maintained their advantage, and had School do.ng their best to avert a score. Finally Rickit and McMahon took play up-field and centred to Empson who shot a hot one past Hunter into the net. Fisher and Johnson were doing sond work for Technical, and attacked along the left wing, but Jourdain ceared, and in a flash Rickit and Empson were in Technicals' circle. A penalty gave relief, but it was not long before Rickit carried the ball right past goalie and netted easily. Empson added another right after the bully-off. The same player made the score 6—o ten seconds later, due to some'clever combined work by the School forwards. A minute or so later Technical got their first goal from a forward attack, Fisher netting well. The game ended shortly afterwards, with the scores: High School, 6; Technical, 1. j Mr W. Douglas refereed.
The Te Awamutu ladies' team journeyed to Te Kuiti yesterday afternoon, and enjoyed a contest with the Te Kuiti ladies. The home team eventually won by four goals to three. Te Awamutu juniors played a Hamilton High School team at Hamilton yesterday, and registered a win by five goals to two. For Te Awamutu Penny scored twice, Wellington twice and C. Reilly once. There is a probability that the Waipa Association will be able to send ladies' and men's teams to Taumarunui on Wednesday of next week.
