WORKS PROGRESS

BOROUGH FOREMAN’S REPORT

The following report by the borough foreman (Mr 'R. H. Chose), to the last meeting of the works committee, was presented for adoption at Monday’s meeting of Te Awamutu Borough Council:—

Fraser Street: The formation of this street is now complete. It will he necessary to put a load or two of sand on the street as soon as the present surface settles down. It was necessary to have 8 yards of sand carted to Fraser Street by a carrier, as I spent two days trying to get the truck to go, and gd t only as far as the sand pit. The bus £fcand signs were erected in front of the Bank of New Zealand. One of the bus drivers informed me it was unsuitable for them, and I informed him that he must not stop in front of Burchell’s, but he persists in doing so. When the Council definitely sets stopping places for the buses I will be in a position to take action against offenders for parking in the wrong area; they seem to think that they can do as they please at present.

At present I have all men working on tree planting. This work is well advanced and I hope to be able to complete the remainder of the planting in about three weeks, also the fencing of the plantation. The following permits have been issued to date: Te Awamutu Service Station, wash-house, £7; St. John’s Girls’ Club, extension to club room, £2O; J. G. Wilson, Security Buildings, kitchen, £9O; J. T. North, boxing-in verandah £2O. Sanitary connection fees: Te Awamutu Service Station and J. G. Wilson (Security Buildings). GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE.

The general cleaning and maintenance of both cemeteries and the cleaning of the sale yards have been seen to during the month. The conveniences in Victoria Park have been cleaned and the inside walls painted white. We still have a fair a mourn of trouble with the sewerage pumping station through rags and other material. As soon as the tree-planting on the water catchment area is finished I intend giving the parks and other borough reserves a general clean up.
