ECONOMY ON THE KING'S FARMS
RETRENCHMENTS AT WINDSOR. FEWER CATTLE EXHIBITS. The King is considerably curtailing his programme of agricultural shov; exhibits ancTalso the number of shows at which he will_be represented this year. So far as the Windsor farms are concerned, the King_has entei'ed cattle only at the Royal Agricultural Show at Southampton in the summer and at Smithfield Fat Stock Show next December. Usually the King's exhibits are to be seen at a number of other shows in the country, in both cattle and sheep classes, but in each there will be a reduced number of animals sent even to the shows mentioned. Recently the King gave up the Flemish farm at Windsor and disposed of the majority of the cattle and farm implements there. This farm was utilised" almost exclusively for Hereford cattle, and representatives of the herd are to be found in all parts of the co.untry. His Majesty retained some of the stock and transferred them to other farms on the royal estate for breeding purposes, and it is from these that entrants will be drawn for the two shows at which the royal competitors will be present. It is understood that the_jjuestion of transportation of cattle from the royal herds to the various shows in the country has been hitherto a difficult and costly matter, and this fact has largely influenced the King's advisers in recommending the modification of the show programme. The breeding programme for a year or so may also come under review, with the result that fewer stock will be reared.
