ITEMS OF INTEREST. (Our Resident Representative.) The Otorohanga Fire Brigade held their annual ball on Tuesuay night, when tiiere was a large gathering of dancers. Music was supplied by a Te Kuiti orchestra, while Mr Chas. R. Taylor acted as principal M.C. Mr Leslie Smith and Miss t'oiiock were the winners of the Monte Cano competition, and Mr Anderson and Miss Cameron the spot waltz competition. The annexe was well patron.sed by “500” players, the first honours going to Mrs Kay and Mr A. Hawkmson, and the “booby” prizes to Mrs R. Ormsby and Mr C. Hunter. Mrs J. Tatham (Otorohanga) rendered a most interesting demonstration of richeiieu* work at the last gathering of the Women’s Institute, in the Hangatiki Hall, when the hostesses were Mesdames Stilweil, Downard and Hoffman.
There was a sharp rise in the price of cow and heifer beef at the local stock sale on Wednesday, in some lines as much as 20 per cent, on last sale rates.

Craig, St. Clair and D. Stuart. Reserves.—Kino and 11. Hughes; T. Wallis and W. Gault. Otorohanga and Taumarunui ladies’ hockey players will be in action here on Saturday in an, inter-club match. Otorohanga girls engage Te Kuiti basketball players, here, on Saturday, the following being the local team:— Misses M. Kay, M. Harris, M. Grey, M. Hughes, M. Neshausen, M. Harris, M. Palmer, W.- Symes, A. White, P. Dowd, M. Hunter, M. Dowd, E. Roberts, L. Hodson. M. Carey, 11. Valois, N. Barker and M. Hughes. The District Scout Commissioner, and Scoutmasters from Hamilton, Te Awamutu, and Te Kuiti, attended the birthday rally of the Otorohanga Boy Scouts, in the local Town Hall annexe, (also Scouts and Cubs) which was comfortably filed for the occasion. Messrs A. B. R. Mossman, Dr Gilbe- d and the visiting officials addressed the gathering and eulogised the local lads for their excellent conduct and Scout work—especially mentioning their first-aid abilities. The huge Birthday Cake, provided by Mrs F. 0. R. Phillips, was attacked with gusto by the lads, who were ably assisted by the Girl Guides p -esent. The whole function was an unqualified success —which reflected credit to alll concerned.
