WORKS PROGRESS

FOREMAN'S MONTHLY REPORT

The foreman, Mr R. H. Close, presented the following report to last meeting of the Wfcrks Committee, and it was presented for adoption at the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening:— Fraser Street. —Owing to the men on the Unemployment Scheme 5 having their working hours cut down so considerably, this job is taking a long time to complete. At the rate ot time they are getting it will take two more weeks to complete. Apart from this job nothing of an importance is going on, except the usual cleaning of the streets, and water and sewer connections; and the reservoir has been cleaned out. The followingpermits have been issued to dace: — Building Permits: (2) Te Awamutu Fire Board, alteration to fire station, £6; G. W. Goodall, Jnr., re-erect one room shop, £l. Sanitary connection fees for Mr J. Sterritt and Mrs A. H. Storey. The foreman's report to the General Purposes Committee was as under: — Selwyn Park: Most of the stumps have been removed. This was rather a big job owing to the stumps being so large. Part of the road entrance has been formed up, and the ground along the border has been dug and levelled. The portion that has been ploughed has been manured and sown in glass. I have planted a hedge along the fence line of Escollcnia Ingramii (variety). Mr M. H. Williams kindly gave me seven trees to plant behind the hedge for a background, 1 matipo, 1 silver Cyprus, 1 Oregon pine, 1 lawsoniana, 1 fan palm ( better known as Chamueropa), 1 Cryptomeria Elegans, 1 Cryptomeria Jiaponica. The matter of about three days will complete the work in this park. After the men have finished here I intend to give Albert Park a good clean up, and clean out the drains. I have put in a hedge of Lawscnianas along the road fence at the borough dump. The nien have cleared a good deal of ground up at the water catchment area, for the planting of the trees there. As soon as the men start again they will commence digging holes for the trees.

We have replaced the fence on the footpath level at the Borough Reserve on the corner of Mahoe Street and Tawhaio Street.

Beth cemeteries_have been cleaned and the long grass cut.
