FOOTPATHS DAMAGED

HORSEMEN BLAMED. At the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening it was suggested that a prosecution seemed to be necessary to prevent irresponsible individuals damaging certain footpaths, especially those surfaced with bitumen, by riding horses along them. Cr Savill referred to damage done to footpaths by horses being ridden along on them. Tawhiao Street footpath was one that was (suffering through this practice. He asked that steps be taken to deal with offenders. He had actually seen one irresponsible individual trotting a heavy shod horse along the footpath. Cr Empson said the footpaths in Manga'piko Street had also suffered from the attentions of horseman. Those associated with training stables were, he considered, the worst offendCr Armstrong said horses being driven loose through the streets did some of the damage.
