ACCOUNTANT CHARGED
ALLEGED THEFT OF £735.
(By Telegraph. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday.
An accountant, Archibald Walter McColl, aged 47, who was arrested yestei-day, was charged in the Police Court to-day before Mr E. Page, S.M., with stealing money amounting to £735, the property of New Zealand Roads, Ltd. (in liquidation), No. 2 account. A remand was granted until Wednesday. It was stated the amount involved would be about £I6OO and that the police would be ready to proceed with the case on Wednesday. Bail was allowed without opposition. Application was made for the suppression of accused's name on the plea that McColl had been negotiating a business settlement on behalf of his wife and if the name was published the settlement would be seriously prejudiced, and the other party concerned would be in a position to dictate. His wife was not a business woman and the amount involved in the settlement was £2OOO.
The magistrate said he was not prepared to make an order.
