Cockayne, assistant director of agriculture, is to officially visit Te Awamutu on Thursday and Friday of this week in company with Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. Dr Cockayne has been specially delegated to deal at this juncture with immediate land settlement proposals in their bearing on the solution of unemployment problems.

On Thursday he Jgjll be in Te Awamutu for the full day. A preliminary meeting is to be held in the Borough Council Chambers at 10.30 a.m. to explyain in brief the Government's proposals. Following this the director will confer with the Waipa County Council at 11 a.m. During the remainder of the day it is hoped he will be available to confer with farmers or others who are able to place areas of land at the Government's disposal. That night he will address a meeting at Otorohanga. On Friday morning it is anticipated further investigation will be continued at Te Awamutu. On Friday afternoon the director is to address a public meeting at Te Kuiti. On Friday night a public meeting will be addressed at the Town Hall, Te Awamutu. It is urged that all farmers and others interested will co-operate in making the utmost possible use of the director's visit. His time is necessarily limited as the nature of his work demands inquiry over a very wide area. His coming to Te Awamutu will enable first hand inquiry to be made and so hasten any negotiations for the settlement of any lands which can be made available. It is also hoped the outcome of his visit will be the creation of a local, organisation to carry on a Work which is so imperatively necessary at the present time.
