TOPICS OF THE HOUR. (Our Resident Representative., The fo lowing Otorohanga pupils were successful at the University entrance examinations: Noel Bowyer, B. F. Hotson.H. K. Rhodes and T. C. Trott. Partial passes in the Accountants' Preliminary were obtained by A. B. Cockburn, Marie A. Cooke, Alive E. Hill, Phillip Phillips and W. Liddy. Messrs R. F. Park and A. Nicholson, of Otorohanga, anded 20 fine rainbow,from the Marakopa River, during a few hours' fishing at the week-end. The heaviest fish was 431 b. and the whole catch averaged 2Slb. While Mr Denis Egan, a stock drover, was trucking stock at the railway yards the other day, a bull broke from the truck, ran down the race, and attacked him viciously. Egan was rather badly knocked about, and his clothes were almost torn from his body. Misfortunes seldom come singly, and on Sunday morning, while trave ling along the main highway, near Puketarata, his horse stepped into a loose culvert, throwing the rider violently. Two important cricket matches were played at Otorohanga on Saturday afternoon. Country put up .43 in their first innings, against the Natives' 37. Scown 18 (not out), and J. Osmond 18 (not out) were the principal scorers. In the second innings the Natives made 35; Osmond 11 (not out) being top scorer. Country lost 4 wickets for 52, A. Finlay 16 (not out), and L. Scown 14 (not out), being the top scorers. Against Honikiwi. the Town team registered 91, of which F. Fairbrother 26, Corbett 24 and Chapman 23 were the best scorers. Honikiwi put up 47, with Donnison 11, and J. Roberts 11, their best scorers. Playing Te Kuiti for the Waikato Banner on Saturday Otorohanga tennis players were successful by 13 sets to 11. , Several pig breeders in the Otorohanga district are interesting themselves in a project to establish a bacon factory here. One "arge breeder, who feeds on an average 500 pigs says that at the rliling pa-ice on offer for baconers (2!d) there is nothing whatever in breeding pigs.
