LITERARY FINDS

Do children nowadays read the books of Maria Edgeworth, that industrious writer of the last century, who was almost as prolific as Edgar Wallace, and just as popular ? I ask the question, writes a contributor to the London Daily Telegraph, because I heard recently that a hitherto unpublished story by her lately found in an old house in the south of Ireland was immediately secured for publication this autumn. The manuscript was carefully bound in scarlet leather, and was evidently a Christmas present to a child. Another hitherto unpublished work by a famous woman writer which is to appear soon is an extravaganza by Charlotte Bronte, called “ The Spell.” Bonte lovers will rejoice at this piece of news, although, as Charlotte Bronte wrote it at the age of eighteen years, it may be immature.
