THE POLITE WAY.
ARISING -out of the recent parliamentary elections, perhaps, with some bearing on municipal, affairs not a thousand miles from T 6 Awamutu, we are prompted to. remark (that the use 0 f - the; parliamentary - phrase, “ You’re a liar ! ” is too often due to a, barrenness of expression or a lack of politeness.. There are very many ways of saying the same thing with consideration and courtesy. To wit: “ The hon. member is no doubt labouring, under a misapprehension when he says » “ The hon. member 'with the highest motives and the best of intentions, makes a statement which, I f e el sure, in his sane- moments he (will realise is not altogether in accordance’with the facts of the case. “ The usually accurate hon.' member has evidently been -led : into, believing—” Or, if it is desired, to be forcer ful: “ The statement to which, the hon. ,member has just given utterance may easily be excused under the plea of a temporary mental aberration or an irresponsible psychosis.
