Five rinks of Otorohanga bowlers are due to visit Te Awamutu this afternoon. A Press Association message from Palmerston North states that about three o’clock this morning a motor accident occurred on Wilson’s Line, resulting in the death of Val. Hewitt, aged 19, a bookbinder. Appointments to the Hamilton High School staff were made yesterday as follows: Mathematics mistress, Miss B. M. Campbell, Hamilton, home science mistress, Miss Elizabeth Wilson, Dunedin; shorthand and typewriting instructress, Miss Joyce Mawhinney, Palmerston North. Residents of Sydney, in their dislike of Mr Lang, the Premier of New South Wales, sometimes allow their humour to run to grim ’engths, according to Mr T. N. Gibbs, who returned last week from a business visit to Australia. Posted near “ The Gap,” the “ suicide’s leap,” is the terse notice : “If you are thinking of committing suicide, shoot Lang first! ” Mr Moynaha, winner of the first prize in the First Aid Art Union (drawn last evening at Wellington) is about 60 years of age and is unmarried. Until recently he was a roadman in the employ of the Rangitikei County Council, working on the Napier-Taihape Road. He is now unemployed, and residing at Hastings. Mr Moynaha was listening in at the wireless in a friend’s house and heard his name announced as the holder of the winning ticket. He was too excited this evening to speak to a repoter and had not discussed even with his friends his future intentions.
