VACANCY IN CABINET
HON. D. JONES STILL ACTING. UNHURRIED APPOINTMENT. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Hon. David Jones, who will shortly relinquish the portfolios of Mines and Agriculture, attended meetings of Cabinet to-day and there ap pears to be no desire to hurry the appointment of his successor. Inquiries on this point have failed to elicit definite information, but it is ascertained that reports of the Government's intention to extend the number of Cabinet Ministers from ten to twelve are not based on any official opinion. Oh the contrary, the impression in Cabinet circles is that during the time_ when spending activity is at its minimum and economy is the most practised virtue any addition to the number of Ministers excepting for the purpose of filling the single vacancy would not be considered for one moment.
