WOMAN GHOST SCARER
HER HOBBY. I have just met the woman who must be one of the modest and yet one of the most successful spiritualist mediums of the day, writes a Sunday Referee Representative. When I called on her she beckoned me upstairs into her front sittingroom. Everything was spotless—and lacking in mystery. She told me hpw she ridded haunted houses of ghosts and of how she communicated with the dead. " I treat all these things," she said, "as a matter of course. They are part of my everyday life." All the time she spoke this little woman never took her large, liquid brown eyes from my face. She thinks nothing of sitting alone through the long night hours in a ghost-ridden house, silently and valiantly fighting a mental battle against the spirits.
" Once," she said, " I helped a minister out of his difficulties. He could get no peace in his house on account of the malevolent activities of evil spirits.
"I expelled the evil in the place after much difficulty, and now everything there is all right." I asked her if her health was affected in any way after she had been in a trance.
"No," she replied, in her quiet, decisive voice; "it is no more than going to sleep. Trances have no bad effect on me at all."
She has been a spiritualist for seventeen years, ..and during that time has never even made a penny out of spiritualism. " It was only until quite recently," she said, " that I took travelling expenses.
