For a long time past the local Domain Board has been negotiating for the. acquisition from the Defence authorities of an area in Arawata Street near the Mangahoe stream, and at last evening’s meeting it was reported that the Department is not disposed to relinquish the reserve without a quid proguo that will provide a 25 yards shooting range. The board has no suitable reserve available for exchange, and eventually it was decided to offer an area of equal size in Daphne Street, and also the right to use the borough sandpit for a shooting range.
