The extent to which land development is being carried on in parts of New Zealand may be gauged from the fact that in the Waitomo electorate alone areas aggregating 35,400 acres are being opened for settlement. These areas include 200 acres at Waimiha, 3300 acres at Poro-o-tarao, 6000 acres at Rangitoto, 7000 acres at Tangitu, 5500 acres at Mahoenui, 1000 acres at Aotea, 3500 acres at Mangaroa, 3000 acres at Mangare and 3000 acres at Arohena. An effort is being made to open up 13,000 acres , of the Moerangi block extension near Aotea, but opposition has been received from the Raglan County Council and in the meantime the Minister of Lands is suspending action.
