MINISTER OF MARKETS
A SUGGESTED PORTFOLIO. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) MORRINSVILLE, Friday. A suggestion that a Minister of Markets should be appointed by the Government was made by Sir James Parr, Reform candidate for Waikato, at a meeting at Morrinsville yesterday. Sir James said official or Governmental attention should be given to marketing. The time was overdue when New Zealand should have a special Minister for Markets, who should be permitted to travel and visit England and other countries once in every three years or so in order to supervise personally the marketing operations, and co-ordinate the activities of the produce boards in Great Britain. Other countries, including Australia, had such a Min.Sir James said a Minister for Markets would have his hands full, and there would be no more important portfolio in the New Zealand Ministry. "Think of it," he said. "This country sends out produce to the value of £50,000,000 every year. Surely such a huge business is worthy of the attention of a capable Minister. It would be a job that an energetic man would delight to undertake."
