ANOTHER HAPPY EVENING. The Te Awamutu Orphans' Club last Saturday evening was presided over by Bro. J. B. Wilson, and well over one hundred members attended, besides several visitors, including a party from Otorohanga. The following programme proved most enjoyable:—Orphans' Orchestra, overture, " Light Brigade," and waltz, " Skating Girl"; Bro. C. R. Linehan, songs, " Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," and "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes "; Bro. K. Hiskens, clarionet selections, "Volga Boaman," and "Schubert's " Serenade "; Mr Millward (Otorohanga), a budget of stories and " Impressions at a Concert"; Mr C. Anderson (Otorohanga), violin selections, " Salute D'Amour," and "Danny Boy"; Orchestra, overture, "Rhinefels," and march, "Philo Senate"; Bro H. A. Swarbrick, solos, "The Bellringer," and "My Lovely Lady"; Mr R. England (Otorohanga), stories and monologue, "Kohenstein at the Telephone ; choir, " The Viking Song," and " Oft in the Stilly Night"; Mr Millward, another budget of stories and the monologue, "Paper Bag Cookery. The chairman took the opportunity early in the evening to heartily welcome the Otorohanga visitors, especially Mr A. T. Cullum, a former member of the club, and thanked him for co-operating so heartily with themusical director in arranging a programme for the evening. (Applause.) After supper Bro. Wilson gave a brief but very interesting address on "Thrills," describing some of the simple joys that bring lasting pleasure, and contrasting the peace, repose, harmony and tranquility derivable therefrom with the artificial pleasures of the modern trend toward jazz, etc. His story was well told, and impressed the audience considerably. The customary Orphans' supper was served, and the evening ended with the National Anthem.
