At the Auckland Racing Club’s Great Northern meeting, which opened yesterday at Ellerslie, the gelckTe Homai, trained by Mr A. Cook, at Te Awamutu, won the Hunt Clu 1 ' Hurdles in good style. The winner of the Great Northern Hurdles was the Cambridge-trained Prince Lu, who was little fancied and beat his stableimate Luccess, the favourite, and a dozen others. Prince Lu competed ir ’ the two -steeplechase events at Te Awamutu a fortnight ago, running in one and falling in the other. No doubt training Prince Lu for steeplechasing improved his staying powers for prior to yesterday’s race he h*»'' invariably tired badly in two mile hurdle events.
