A NOTED TYRE-MAKER

CAREER OF M. ANDRE MICHELIN. M. Andre Michelin, the head of the Michelin Tyre Company of France, has died in Paris at the age of 78 years. Both he and his brother, who was associated with him in the huge cycle and motor tyre firm, became millionaires (states the London Cenjtre News). Their main factory is at Clermont-Ferrand. They built a large depot in England, and led a sensational rate' war, which brought the prices of tyres down with a rush four years ago. The original rubber factory at Claremont, which now employs thousands of men and women, was begun by Andre’s grandfather. Its chief product then was bouncing rubber balls. A chance call by a motor cyclist, Whose tyres, glued to the wheels, had punctured, gave the brothers an idea. A detachable tyre was invented, and Was an immediate success. M. Andre Michelin took a great interest in the development of aviation in France, and was a former president of the French Aero Club.
