ELECTRICAL PROGRESS.

INSPECTOR'S AND ENGINEER'S REPORTS.

At the meeting of Te Awamutu Electric Power Board on Friday the following reports by the inspector (Mr A. J. Tailby) and the engineer (Mr E. Bryant) were submitted tor adoption:—. V_ INSPECTOR'S REPORT. During the month I have inspected installations and extensions on 4 lighting plants, 2 cow-plant motors, 1 other power plant, 3 water-pump motors, 3 stoves, and 1 water-heater, the total to date being 1592 lighting plants, 615 cow-plant motors, 72 other power plants, 228 water-pump motors, 13 washing machines, 24 shearing plants, 198 stoves,, and 592 waterheaters, a grand total of 3334. I also tested and inspected alterations on 18 intsallatiohs and extensions on 6 lighting plants, installed and connected 1 large griller; total grillers to date, 239; total of 2 k.w. (or. over) radiators to date, 52;. I have supplied and installed 1 Moffat stovette, tested 30 meters, installed 14, repaired 4, disconnected 5, changed 8, and removed 3; disconnected 2 waterheaters, 3 water-pumps, 1 lighting plant, and 1 other power plant; reconnected 1 heating plant, re-assessed 3 lighting plants, attended to 7 inquiries and 11 faults, made up specification for 1 water-pump installation, re-inspected 1 lighting plant, 2. cow-plant motors, 1 water-pump motor, 1 shearing plant, 1 stove, and 2 water-heaters; I have carried out the foreman's duties from last meeting to 10th February. , • ENGINEER'S REPORT. Sixty-five silver pine poles were received and stacked at yard dump; 48 poles were carted and 53 were erected, of which 45 were for maintenance and 8 for construction. Provision was made for a post and telegraph line crossing at Parawera, and several small maintenance jobs were carried out. The. Public Works Department's inspecting engineer inspected the new extensions that have been erected in the past year. He reported favourably on the work carried out. A few danger notices have to be erected, insert an insulator on a stay wire, and earth a stay wire, are the requirements asked. Line patrols were made at Pukeatua, Kaipaki, and Te Rahu. Paterangi, Te Kawa, and Pukeatua sub-stations were c'eaned out; 640 gallons of oil have been re-condi-tioned. Advantage was taken for the changing of transformer oil during the month; to date 111 single-phase 3k.v. transformers, 11 3-phase 3-k.v. transformers, and 14 3-phase 11-k.v. transformers have had oil changed. Two condensers were re-erected. The annual earth-testing has now been completed; there are 365 earths, and 18 of these were found to be above the regulations, and they are now receiving attention. The daily load records for January are attached herewith; the peak load to date for the present quarter occurred between 7.30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on 13th February, and was 1114 k.v.a. at .915 power factor. Nine street lamps were changed at Ohaupo and 2 at Kihikihi; 23 community lamps were changed. Eight service lines were erected; the overhauling of service lines has been continued during the' month; 16 services were disconnected and 7 re-connected. Trees that were causing trouble on the lines were cut at Puniu Road, Pokuru, Kihikihi, Pirongia, Ngahape, KSorakonui, Pukeatua, Parawera, and Te Kawa. The vehicles have > travelled 7056 miles during the month. On 27th January a fire-occurred in the,workshop, and caused minor damage; the fire is believed to have started in the drying oven, which has to be left on over-night; arrangements have now been made to have this apparatus installed outside the binding in a concrete container. A member of the outside staff received a fractured arm while pole-changing on 27th January.
