BAD LIGHTING
An analysis of 91,000 accidents investigated by the National Safety Council of America demonstrated that 21,000 accidents were wholly or partly due to inadequate lighting. In the United States the number of accidents increased enormously the winter. In January there were 3000 accidents; in June the number was 800. In a tin-box factory in Germany the workmen who operated the 20 large presses met with many injuries to their hands. v The direction of the light used in the factory was altered by an expert. After some time it was found that riot only did accidents almost cease to occur, but also that the output of the machines was increased by 9 per cent.
