SHOCKED BY A WINK

BATHROOM POSTER BANNED. A "bathroom scene" poster has been banned by the London Underground Railway because it was considered it might offend the susceptibilities of passengers. The offending poster, issued by the Garrick Theatre to advertise the play " Almost a Honeymoon," shows Miss Rene Kelly, the actress entering a bathroom wrapped only in a towel, while a strange young man, who has entered her flat by mistake after a convivial evening, lies in bed gazing at the unexpected spectacle. He has one eye open, and appears to be winking! It was this wink that set the Underground authorities thinking about their passengers' feelings. This is what an official of the company said about the winking young man in bed: " I think the half-open eye, or wink, on the part of the man was one of the most repulsive parts of the poster." Miss Rene Kelly was astonished. " Why, I think in the poster I have got much more on that most people have in the daytime! " she said. " I am wrapped in about three layers of bath town—a full-size bath sheet which covers me entirely." Over one hundred clergymen saw the first matinee of the play, added Miss Kelly, and they did not see anything with which to find fault. As a result of the decision it is stated that hundreds of pounds' worth of printing will have to be scrapped.
