£3OO ANNUAL ALLOWANCE
An old car, a total expense account of £3OOO yearly, and high scholastic standing, sums up the college career of one of America's potentially richest young men—Nelson Rockefeller, son of John D. Rockefeller, Jnr., says the American correspondent .of the News-Chronicle.
Though he will one day share in the vast fortune of his father, his four years at college have been marked by an economy that would do credit to a student of very moderate means. His monthly allowance was barely sufficient to cover college expenses.
While the majority of students rolled around in flashing cars from their freshmen year, young Rockefeller's family allowed him a car only in his senior year. And that car was a cheap one—three years old! The £3OO annual allowance had to cover the following expenses: Tuition, £80; board, £6; room rent, from £4O to £6O; subscriptions, £2O. " Rocky's " largest social expense came when he escorted his fiancee to the college "prom." Young Rockefeller wears simple clothes. His hobby is photography, and he always carries a camera on his numerous walks into the woods. " Rocky " does not drink or smoke, and, like his father, he attends church every Sunday. He also conducts a Sunday school class for girls. "
