CRICKET.

WAIPA COMPETITIONS. TE AWAMUTU V. HIGH SCHOOL. The Te Awamutu v. High School fixture was played at headquarters ground on No. 2-wicket, and resulted in a win for High School. High School won the toss and elected to bat, opening with Shepherd and Snowden, to the attack of Thompson and Chapman. The opening pair completely collared the bowling. The runs came very fast and 105 was up before Shepherd lost his wicket to Lord.

The opening pair put on the bulk of the runs, Shepherd 76, and Snowden 43, out of a total of 136. Bowling for Te Awamutu Lord was the most successful, taking ) 6 wickets for 25, Rickit took 3 for 10. Te Awamutu replied with 81. Chapman 41, Blundell 14, Philp 10, getting the runs. Bowling for High School, Snowden was very successful, taking 7 wickets for 20 runs. In their second innings High School hit up 128 for 7 wickets. Oram 45, Snowden 43, “ Tiny ”• MacMahon 24, doing the Te Awamutu bowlers’ averages; a lot of harm. PATERANGI v. TE KAWA,

After a close game Paterangi was successful in defeating Te Kawa by the small margin of 16 runs. Batting first, Paterangi compiled 86, of which C. Tarr 31 and Sommerville 19 were the chief contributors. Te Kawa commenced badly, losing Ashton and G. Howcroft with the total at 11. Smart went at 16, but Winter and R. Mexted stayed for a while and brought the total to 38, when Winter was smartly taken in the slips by Tarr. Mexted soon followed, being dismissed in a similar fashion. Mutton and C. Howcroft added 22 runs, but with their dismissal the end came quickly, and the side was out for 70. C. Tarr was bowling very consistently and was Paterangi’s most effective bowler. PATERANGI.
