KING COUNTRY HAPPENINGS ITEMS OF INTEREST. ’ (Own Correspondent.) Quite the best clearing sale of dairy stock for some months past was that held during the week by the .New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agmjcy Company on behalf of Mr W. Mahood, Pirongia Road. The sale had been well advertised, and as a consequence a large number of buyers attended. The whole herd of grade Shorthorns sold readily, making up to £l6 per head. All of the cattle were in fine condition. The School Committee’s delegation returned from Auckland late on Wednesday night after interviewing the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) and the secretary of the Auckland Education Board, regarding the bus drivers’ strike in connection with the conveyance of district children to the local consolidated school. The interview resulted in anarrangement by which the bus drivers will at once resume the conveyance of children from outlying districts. The suggestion of State-owned vehicles'" was discussed with the authorities, but no decision was reached along those lines, although it was stated that the matter would be further considered. The members of the local Oddfellows’ Lodge held a pleasing and successful social and euchre party on Wednesday evening. Mr Edmonds and Mrs H. Millar won the prizes. The net proceeds of the entertainment were satisfactory.
