BEAUTIFYING ENGLAND
The increasing defacement! of the countryside;;^-has v ; called into being a body h known .as the> Council for the Preserveation of Rural England. The aim of this organisation is to combat every > sort of disfigurement; ugly buildings, which are out of harmony with their surroundings, aggressive petrol pump stations, hideous and obtrusive hoardings, indiscriminate tlree, felling, and the hundred and one other offences which go to spoil the beautiful countryside. The council also aims at attaching to itself affiliated societies by means of which it can keep in touch with every phrase of activitly affecting the country. The flaring petrol pump* question is actually being dealt with by the House of ! Commons and regional planning schemes are doing much to prevent the haphazard building of houses in unsuitable surroundings.
