IN WAITOMO ELECTORATE. PROHIBITION LOSES GROUND. In the congestion of election results for inclusion in our Thursday's issue (which was published many hours earlier than usual) we had to hold over a good deal of interesting' information, including 1 the figures given below. It may be added that soon after 10 p.m. on Wednesday the progress returns to hand indicated that the vote for prohibition would be. a long way short of the estimates of the ardent supporters of that cause. The figures were:— Continuance 4191 State Control 805 Prohibition 2164 There are still a number of absentee votes to come in, in addition to two small booths and approximately 66 postal ballot votes, though these will not affect tlhe final issue. Returns from all of the 68 licensing districts 'are now available. . The aggregate Dominion vote- for continuance is shown as 342,793, that for State purchase 58,667, and that for prohibition 273,611, showing an adverse majority against prohibition of 127,849 votes. The votes cast for continuance represent 675,071, but the absentee votes in each district have yet to be added. The votes Cast for continuance represent 50.78 per cent of the total, so that on the present figures continuance was carried without the assistance of the State purchase vote.
