Candidates for Waikato.

Mr Raid defeated Mr Fred Lye three years ago by over 900 votes, and his long record of public service has been added to by his term as member for Wiaikato. He is a shrewd and hard Worker, and though perhaps he did not have the hearty co-operation of Reform supporters in the early stages bf ihe latest campaign—his electorate had been radically changed by the electoral commissioners—he -won solid support in the last few days!

Mr Lye won the Wiaikato seat six years ago as |a; Liberal, against two Reform candidates, but was defeated in 1925 by Mr Reid. The change in the boundaries gave " Fred " a much better chance* this time,, and, as he

showed that he is a bright, energetic man, fully abreast of political questions of the day, he made the pace hard for his opponents all the way.

Though the Country Party was not taken seriously in some quarters, they, made ]a wise choice in selecting Mr P.' Keegan to contest Waikato. A bluff, sincere farmer, who camel from Ireland many years ago to settle here, he was quickly championing the cause of the oppressed. He has a winning personality, and has the farmers' clause at heart. This won him many votes.
