OTOROHANGA NOTES

TOWN BOARD MEETING. (Our Resient Reporter). At the ordinary meeting of the Town Board on Thursday evening it was decided to scarify the pot holes in Maniapoto Street, and improve the surface of the street. The Board is asking the Valuation Department to furnish a new valuation roll, with the object of bringing the valuations up to date. (The previous valuations were made in 1918). The next meeting of the Board will be devoted specially to the revision of by-laws. As many of the verandahs of the town are in a defective condition, owners of such are to receive notice that proper repairs and improvements must be effected forthwith, failing which, proceedings will be taken against offenders. An inspection will be made of the reservoir by the whole Board, for the purpose of viewing the possibilities of increasing the storage capacity of the existing dam. An inspection of the town area will be made forthwith, in order to observe the properties on which noxious weeds are growing. The noxious weeds inspector will then be instructed to proceed against deliquent property owners

The practice of business people obstructing wafer channels with rubbish ,principally bottle capsules, must cease, otherwise offenders will be prosecuted. Efforts are being made by the Board to re-open the old stock route. at' the southern end of the town, and a committee was appointed to go into "the matter. GENERAL. The judging of the babv entrants in the Plunket Baby Carnival yesterday, promoted great interest. Mrs (Dr) Gilberd, and Nurse Parr were the judges, and their task was not an easy one. considering the large number of competitors in the various classes. Mrs Hunters' (Te Kuiti) baby was awarded first prize in the six months old class, while Mrs Perry's baby was runner up. Mrs 6'Dowd's baby secured the honours in the year old section, with Mrs Wallace's baby second. The natives ''of Otoifohanga and outlyin gparts, have been catching quantities, of whitebait! during the past few days in the Waipa River. With the Maoris, whitebaiting is now the order of the day, and some of the fishermen make great! individual hauls. Shearing of the dry sheep of many flocks will commence in about two weeks' time. Since the weather has sufficiently improved docking has been pushed forward, their being some good percentages of lambs. Friends will be pleased to know thatl Mr J. A. Sparks, who underwent an operation at the Waikato Hospital on Sunday last, is now reported to be making a good recovery. The C*torohanga Farmer's Union have decided to write to the National Dairy Association stating that they were thoroughly dissatisfied with the prices paid for veal calves in the district, and urging the Association to formulate a scheme for next season to give a uniform price throughout the district. In Taranaki dairymen were getting 12s 6d to 15s for their young calves, according to some speakers at the Union's meeting. A resolution was also carried favouring joining the Waikatb sub-provinc-ial district with its headquarters at Hamilton. At the musical competitions held all Cambridge this week. Mr W. P. Wade, of Otorohanga, secured two third 'honours in the vocal solos.
