It was stated at the Borough Council meeting last evening that there were six applications for the position of borough works foreman. These will be considered at next Monday evening's meeting. The death occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon, at his home in Epsom, Auckland, of Mr James Buttle, aged 76, formerly general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company. Until the year 1919, when he retired from, active life, Mr Buttle was one of the best known business men in Auckland. A son of the Rev. George Buttle, one of the first Wesleyan missionaries to New Zealand, who_ Was labouring among the Maoris in the very early days, Mr James Buttle was born in 1852 at the mission station at Te Kapua, on the Waipa river, being one of seven brothers. When about five years old he was taken by his father to England, where the family remained for some years.
