During the progress of yesterday's meeting of the Waipa County Council, Cr Clarke stated that he had been approached by a Kakepuku settler, asking that the county foreman be instructed forthwith to inspect the Kakepuku drains, and in the event of his reporting that the necessary clearing had not been done bv the settlers concerned in the agreement, notice be served on them at once. Cr Clarke added that it had been reported to him that some of the settlers were defaulting, and delay would mean that the drain would be congested with water during the winter months. The chairman pointed out that the drains referred to were not under county jurisdiction; the affected landowners could proceed against the defaulters through the court.
