A tender has been accepted by the Government for the construction of the new railway station at Auckland. The successful tenderers are Messrs J. T. Julian and Son, Ltd., of Auckland, and the contract price understood to be in the vicinity of £326,000, of which the actual buildings represent £200,000. The work, which will be put in hand as soon as the formalities associated with the signing of the contract have been completed, included the erection of the station buildings, together with the construction of platforms, verandahs, subways, ramps, drains, retaining walls and forecourt, and the provision of fixed furnishings, electric lighting system, clocks, bell's, and floor coverings. The undertaking is expected to be completed in 21 months.
