DANCE AT KIHIKIHI

CHILDREN’S PRETTY COSTUMES

The plain and fancy costume dance at Kihdkihi last night, promoted to aid the funds of the Anglican Church there, afforded plenty of interest and amusement for patrons. The children in fancy costume especially were the cynosur/e of all eyes, for some excellent representations were in evidence. The judges (Mr and Mrs G. Dalton) eventually made the following awards: Tiny tots: Most original, Lorna Richardson (Domino) and Jeanie McRae (Good Night). Prettiest costume, Peggy Kerr (Squaw) and Joyce Dyer (Arabian Princess). Most original: Grace Owen (Courtier) and Lionel Kidd (Father Christmas. Prettiest, Nora Old (Spanish Dancer) and Billie Pratt (Arabian Prince). A list of juniors in costume is as follows: Eric Richardson, a dunce; Margery Croasdale, chip of the old block; Billy Pratt, Mustard . Club member; Doris Penny, danger isignal; Daphne Harford, jester; Winifred Aldridge, Little Lord Fauntleroy; J. Howie, Little John;, Mary Wynyard, circus clown,; Gladwin Wynyard, fairy; Harry Wynyard, Roman Soldier; May Eyre, rosebud; Billy Brockhurst, Charlie Chaplin; Edward Fitzpatrick, sailor; Cyril Eyre, sandwich man; Kathleen Fitzpatrick, jingle bells; Ken James, nigger; J. Kidd, clown; Mavis Wilson, parcel post; Jessie Wilson, pillar box; Mavis Allen, Miss PomPom; Connie Owen, French soldier; Frances Penny, Weldon’s fashions; Hazel Spinley, pierrette; Nancy Walter, gipsy. The children were given two hours’ dancing before adults were allowed on the floor, and all seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. A tasty supper was \served and then adults continued the dance until midnight.
