THE MEMSAHIB CASE
STIPENDIARY STEWARD'S APPEAL DISMISSED. JOCKEY'S DISQUALIFICATION STANDS. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. In the matter of appeal to the Racing Conference by Mr J. McMahon, Chief stipendiary steward, against the decision of the Auckland district committee in upholding the appeal lodged by M. Wells, owner of Memsahib, against the decision of the judicial committee of Auckland Racing Club in disqualifying Wells for twelve months from June 4, 1927, under Part 31, Rule 1, of the rules of racing, the judicial committee being of the opinion that the horse Memsahib, wa.3 ik«t run to win the Hunt Club Cup, the judgment is as follows:—"After having carefully read the evidence and having heard the parties concerned in the case in the entire absence of any definite evidence of fraudulent intent on the part of Wells *n connection with the running of his horse, Memsahib, in Hunt Club Cup, on June 4, 1927, we decide that the appeal be dismissed and the decision of Auckland district committee be confirmed." The judges were Messrs Harold A. Russell. O. S. Watkins, and J. R. L. Stanford. In the appeal of W. H. Reid, rider of Memsahib in the Hunt Club Cup, the judgment is:— "We have considered Reid's appeal, but no evidence has been tendered to us to disturb the findings of the judicial committee of the Auckland Racing Club, and Auckland district committee, and we therefore dismiss the appeal." Reid was disqualified for twelve months.
