IN AND ABOUT OTOROHANGA. SOUTHERN DISTRICT NOTES. - (Own Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon many spec* tutors enjoyed two sterling games jjfl Rugby football, when Otewa senloffll after a good contest, defeated Otorohanga by 25 .to 12. The Honikiwi and N'° Ki° match provided excellent and exciting play, Honikiwi evxentually winning by 3 points to 0. At Kio Kio the home team defeated Huia by 19 to 3. Otewa juniors weer defeated by Otorohanga by 35 points to 0. L V Mrs Long, of Rangitoto, took seriously ill when motoring near Otorohanga on Saturday afternoon. Medical attention was called, and she was removed to the Te Kuiti hospital. Latest news states that she is now out of immediate danger.' In my football notes of last issue re proposed amalgamation the name Maniapoto was written in error. It should have read Waipa and Otorohanga subunion, which is the ideal sporting combination that some football enthusiasts of Te Awamutu and Otorohanga are now working to bring about. The president (Mr F Quin) of the Waipa Rugby Union was on a visit to Otorohanga last Friday, and expressed himself as in entire agreement with any arrangement that would cement ■ the sporting friendship of the two districts.

There are steadily growing business interests between the towns of Otorohanga and Te Awamutu. and as time : ... goes on the population of both places ; must materially increase, and -any amalgamation in sport would also be to the mutual advancement of further business connections between the two centres. 4 It must, however, be understood by the‘football public that there is nothing official in these remarks, and - neither union’s officials have • ap- * proached the writer on the question of amalgamation. My remarks are inspired as a result of conversations with players, and sportsmen who have the interests of Rugby fotball at heart'. Of course the boundaries have been fixed, but many think that these must be altered. At present the Otorohanga players have to travel long distances to lake part in games. The management of the municipal pictures inaugurated a pleasing change in the programme at the Otorohanga Town Hall last Saturday night, when the usual interval between screenings was filled with a monologue entertainment of no mean order. Miss Greig, of Auckland, was the artist, and she rendered two excellent recitations. The Otorohanga ladies’ hockey team travelled by motor bus to Te Awamutu on Saturday to try conclusions with the Te Awamutu Saturday team. The Otorohanga ladies won the match by 4 goals to 1. ’ The chairman of the Auckland Education Board is at present on a visit to this district, on business connected with educational matters. Some of the men who. were put on the works in the Rangitoto district are leaving their temporary jobs as they state they cannot make a living at that employment. After the deduction for food is made, and time lost through wet weather, they state that theer are only a few shillings left each week for the support of their dependants. The majority of the men, however, are prepared to stick to then employment while the winter lasts, as they can see no better prospect were they to leave their present work just now. It evident that many of tbe men have not been used to pick and Sh Mrs W/Blundell, of Rangitoto, who has been seriously ill in Christchurch, Is recovering, and will shortly return . to her home.
