MYSTERIOUS ACCIDENT
STRUCK BY FLYING STICK. • (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WAIHiI, Monday.. A serious -accident; < the. circumstances of wMeh are surrounded .by mystery, occurred to Mrs Bernard Roberts, of Waiihi, who was proceeding to Thames 'races on Saturday--morning in company with jher husband, who was driving with Miss Poppy ;Wallnultt. ■ ■. It appears that, when approaching PurirS, a stout stick, several feet.,, in length, came hurtling through 'the air with cpnsiderab'lei force, striking'Mrs Roberts on t!he left cheek and inflicting severe lacerated wounds to an eye and bruises to the cheek. The force of 'the blow rendered Mrs Roberts temporarily unconscious,, and first aid had to be rendered at Piiriri. On arrival at Thames*. sibJei was medically attended, after which she relturned to Wai!|hi. The injured (lady is now confined to her bed. Statements by the other occupants of the car go to show that the stick appeared to have been deliberately thrown by some person eonceailed at the side of the road.
