MEETING OF COSDnTT.EE. PREPARATIONS FOR ANNUAL RACES. A meeting of [the management committee of 'the; Waipa Racing .Club was held in the Club's, office on Friday evening, when there were .present: Messrs' F: Quin (presid'siut) in the chair), A. S. Wallace, M. H.. Tims, C. F. Storey, A. Bond, J. O'S'ufliivan, A. |HL Storey, S. A, Empsbn, W. Alexander, S. C. Maeky, J. T.' Joung and the secretary, M J. G. Wyiiyard. # The chief busines's of the evening was to rieceive the report of the programme committee in connection with the forthcoming annual race meeting. The secretary reported! having received ptennission from the Racing Conference autho|risiing a reduction in stakes to £l3oo'. Tlhis .concession was made in consideration of the fact that •the club 'is expending £l6O on improvements. .' Th):H secretary Isaid,' he had also, as in'slDructed, applied to the Minister for (Internal Affairs for a refund of the £250 totalisator tax Ito enable the club to erect a mew set of horse boxes. Thie. Finance Act, however, 'provided that thi club has first to make improvements ,and fthe Minister for Finance may then make the refund, 'lit was'reported that Messrs Mcl'nnes and Ross (had been instructed to proeefedl with the approved improvement's to the grandstand. The work was beling put in hand Straight away.
The programme for the coming meeting i s based on i\&h year's programme, with the following alterations:— • iKihikihi Handicap, changed! from six to seven furlongs., The place money in the Cup is increased iby £5. The Paterangi Weilter distance is inciteased from a mlile to nine furlongs. The stak)e is increased by £5. Orakau Hack Handicap stake is increased by £ls. Ohaupo Handicap is increased by £5. iln the Waipa Plate the distance is again six furlongs, and' this event is restiricited to horses that, at time of starting, have! not won a race exceeding £SO to the winner. The.stake is increased! from £IOO to £120.' 'The secretary was Instructed to (present the draft programme to the District Committee for approval. One new member 'was elected.
Thtei opinion was expressed that th'e membership could be increased by fifty by a personal canvass by committeemen and members. The fee for membership is so low that sportsmtejn get ■better'-valine by membersbiip flhan by vpaying the usual admission cha.ges, seeing thalt each memtjer gets tickets for Ihims'Qflfi and two' ladies, giving alll three admission .to the grandstand enclosure, /
