THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
The principal provision In the Dairy Industry Amendment Bill, introduced, by the Minister of Agriculture, is an authority to make regulations providing for the classification of cream according to its percentage of butter-fat, and to make payment accordingly, fixing the minimum variation of such pricds. 'Dairy companies, according to another clause, may not describe themselves as “co-operative ” unless they are actually so, and the. registrar of companies is authorised to take steps to effect a change of name where there are non-co-operative companies now describing themselves afe “ co-operat-ive.” The export provision that butter shall not contain an excess of water is to be extended, by adding the words, “ or less than 80 per cent of butterfat.”
There are several clauses designed to prevent contamination on dairy farms, and apportioning expenditure as between landlord and tenant where an inspector orders expenditure on buildingls, or other permanent improvements to a farm.
