ORPHANS' CLUB

ANOTHER. SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL.

Despite the weather conditions last Saturday evening, the local Orphans’ Club gathering was a success particularly so when it % mentioned that a party of Hamilton and Te Aroha Orphans came ithrough to assist with, the programime. Bro. A. F. Walker was to the chair, and he must have been gratified with' tbe quality of the programme and the many evidences of appreciation the audience. .Proceedings opened with two 'selections rendered in splendid style by the Orphans’ Orchestra. -The items by the • following were rendered: —Bro. D. Stallard songs; Bro. Parsons (of the Wellington Savage Club)l songs; Bto. Quill (Hamilton), songs; Bro. Emerson (Hamilton) concertina selections, including some remarkable church organ effects; Bro. Morgan (Te Aroha), ’songs; Bro. W. Fenton (Hamilton), songs and stories; Bro. White, songs; Bro. Reg. Cook, songs at the piano and storiettes. After supper several of the contributors named again afforded en-» tertainment, the whole concluding with orchestral selections. Bro. Walker, in his brief!, address, took for bite subject “Afforestation,” and he gave some most interesting details of the operations of the several .private and public enterprises of this nature in the Dominion and overseas, and described entertainingly the purposes to which timber iis used nowadays.
