RACES AND ART UNIONS
'CHEAP FUN FOR POOR PEOPLE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) . . WELLINGTON, Friday. The low-salaried .''sport" who is fond' of a little flutter by way of purchasing art union tickets at "a bob a time," has a friend in the Labour member for Auckland Central. "I don't think the country is going to go broke Over art unions," declared Mr Parry.' "The Minister should not be stampeded by-resolutions palssed by certain organisations.:'... It is a matter that shoujld.be regarded from an open-minded, b.roi i-minded point of view."
Mr Parry had been in poor homes where people could not afford to go to races,' but they did like to buy an art union ticket. They..could afford a shilling for a'little fun, and they waited patiently for the announcement of the winner. It would be a pity to deprive poor people of their fun. Drastic action on the part of the Minister Avas not warranted. \
