FUNCTION AT HAIRINI
CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL.
The promoters of the children's fancy dresfe dance at Hairini last evening must have been gratified.with the response of the general public, as before 8 o'clock the hall was packed almost to its utmost, the assembly including several dozen juveniles arrayed in a conglomeration of costumes, many of them exceedingly pretty, while others were novel and quaint. The scene as the young folk glided or romped about the hall in the many waltz or the more inspiriting polka was very pretty indeed. The judges entrusted with the task of awarding prizes had an extremely difficult task, though there were so many prizes that all the best costumes were recognised with awards. Soon after 10 o'clock the children were served with a dainty supper, and the elder dancers made use' of the floor. A very happy time was spent. The following were the prjze winners:—
