OTOROHANGA SPORTS CLUB.

There has been a deal of illness amongst our tOAvnspeople lately. Pneumonic influenza has been very prevalent and amongst the sufferers are Mrs J. Fletcher, Avho has been confined to her bed for over a week, but who is reported to be improving noAv. Mrs Kerr, who had to be taken to 'the hospital last week, is said to be on the improve and her many friends hope to see her home again before long. The Waitomo Power Board’s 'large lorry was allegedly responsible for the death of four sheep on the Otewa road. The animals Avere on the roadway and the lorry, Avhich Avas going at a good pace, Avas driven over them. The first bowser plant to be erected in Otoroh-anga is now being put together at the Farmers’ Trading Company’s store. I understand that two other firms, McAdam Ltd., and J. Trapski, are about to erect similar conveniences for motorists.

I regret to report that Mr R. V. Garrett, one of our leading business men, has had to go into hospital for an operation in connection with appendicitis. The operation was effected to-day and as no neAvs is good neAvs it is hoped he is dbing as well as can be expected.

The meters installed in connection Avith the electric light and power service are complained of for being “creepers.” From enquiries I glean that there is no electric meter existing that does not creep to some extent and I am told that no complaint is warranted.

I am glad to be able to report that our old local identity. Blr 'Harry Clarke who had to go to hospital for an operation for hernia, is making good, progress towards recovery, and it is hoped he will be 1 home again within the next two or three Aveeks. T hear that there is to be a second chemist’s establishmtnt here, a newcomer having taken Mrs Corban’s premises in Tuhoro Street, where he will open up in a few Weeks’ time.

Rabbit skins have for some time been finding a good market here, there being several buyers here every Friday and! the hard-pushed small dairy farmer has been able to secure useful sums for current living expenses. One man, Avho has made the curing of rabbit skins a hobby, brought in a parcel of over 200 of the very best cured and dressed skins yesterday and had the gratification of receiving £8 15s cash for same.

It is notified that the partnership hitherto existing between A. G. E. Mangham, W. A. Burrell and, A. Burrell, under the name of Mangham, Burrell and Son, has been dissolved. The firm will for the future be knoAvn as Burrell and Son.
