A wet ground levels footballers as. well as cricket teams,-and so, the All Blacks found, yesterday when they were soundly trounced by a weak local 'fifteen, playing without ha'lf-a- \

dozen of its leading lights.,. The- day was wet and the ground deep in mud. The attendance was poor. New Zealand with the Wind in -their., favour, scored 11 point to 3. Against the wind they showed no form at-all till the very end, when Mill, Porter, Elvey and Finlayson ran from their own goal line, passing in succession and scored a try. Cooke and iXichplls were not playing and. Sheen was hurt, and had to retire. The scores for Wellington were tries by Tyree, iGrenfell and Tait; three penalty- goals by O'Regan and one by 'Malcolm. 'For New Zealand two tries were scored by Elvey, one by Finlayson, and Svenson converted one and kicked a penalty goal.

ICOMPAINTS FROM UNIONS

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand Union has received a telegram from the Bay of Plenty Union expressing dissatisfaction with the selection of the Maori team, and demanding consideration for its district. The telegram has been referred to the Maori Advisory Board. The Wanganui Union sent a strong protest against the methods of the Maori Board in bartering .with one Union against another for matches. It was decided to inform all Unions that negotiations for matches must be made through the New Zealand Union. Canterbury asked for' a match against the Maoris on July 21st, bu.t were told the fixtures were already settled. ,

The manager and captain' of the New Zealand team will be asked, while in Sydney, to unveil a memorial to the late W. R. McGregor, a well-known Thames player. ■
